History of ICOM Belarus
Since 1946, when the International Council of Museums (ICOM International) was created under UNESCO, ICOM National Committees, which are legal entities registered in their countries, have been founded in 145 countries around the world. They are authorized by the ICOM International Executive Board to represent the interests of museums and museum professionals and to organize ICOM activities in their countries. ICOM International is a non-governmental organization of museums and museum professionals, with over 40,000 members worldwide.
The Public Association "Belarusian Committee of the International Council of Museums 'ICOM'" (PA "BCICM 'ICOM'"), officially registered with the ICOM Secretariat in Paris as a national association under number 43, has officially represented ICOM in Belarus since 2000. Like other ICOM national committees around the world, ICOM Belarus acts as the main channel of communication between members in their country and the ICOM Secretariat in Paris.
