INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY – 18 May 2025
Dear colleagues!
The theme of International Museum Day 2025, “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Societies”, highlights the importance of museums in an era of profound social, technological and environmental shifts, and encourages museums to respond to the challenges of today and shape the opportunities of tomorrow.
International Museum Day has been celebrated annually on 18 May for over 45 years worldwide. ICOM national and international committees, as well as museum regional alliances and affiliated organisations, play an important role in its success, which increases the importance of museums to their communities.
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) develops a visual image for a chosen theme every year. In 2025, the key visual image for the IDM design concept was inspired by the idea of fluidity and adaptability, featuring dynamic, free-flowing forms and gradient tones. This image simultaneously reflects the ability to transform and sustainability - something that every museum in the world needs now.
Happy professional holiday, dear workers of the museum sphere!
