Art heritage associated with Belarus in the museums of the world

Museums  —  Museum of Human Evolution (Spain,  Burgos)

Museum of Human Evolution (Span. Museo de la Evolución Humana — MEH) is located on the southern bank of the Arlanzón River in the Spanish city of Burgos. It is approximately 16 kilometers west of the Sierra de Atapuerca, where some of the world's most important human fossils have been found. In addition, the Atapuerca archaeological site, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000, has donated several exhibits to the museum.

From its opening on 13 July 2010 until 8 July 2011, the museum was visited by a total of 279,000 people, becoming the most visited museum in Castile and León and approaching 10th place among the most visited museums in Spain.

In 2022, the museum managed to recover its pre-pandemic figures, welcoming 142,766 visitors (only the permanent exhibition of MEH, excluding visits to temporary exhibitions and the archaeological excavations in Atapuerca), approaching the 151,877 visitors in 2019, once again becoming one of the most visited museums in Spain.

It is the central element of the so-called Human Evolution Compound, which includes a conference centre, the CENIEH research institute and the museum itself.
