The first training seminar of the Regional Museum Academy-2019 was held in Gomel. Its main theme was formulated as "Museums at the crossroads of history and culture of memory." The referent of the training seminar was Dr. Christiane Janeke (Germany).
The main group of participants (16 people) arrived in Gomel on the morning of April 25 at the Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace of the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble, where the grand opening of the educational program of the Regional Museum Academy and the main classes of the first seminar took place.
The next day, April 26, employees of various museums of the Gomel region joined the group of future museum trainers taking a full course of the Regional Museum Academy.
The second day of the training seminar coincided with the anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, so special attention was paid to the discussion of the questions “What museums in Belarus contribute to the disclosure of the discourse of national history?”, “Which national museum is the leading one in Belarus?”, “How do you assess the state of these museums regarding memory and historical politics?”, as well as the traveling exhibition of the MOC Minsk: “25 years after Chernobyl - People - Places - Solidarity”, through the prism of this event.
As an example of cooperation, Christiane Janeke showed the group the exhibition "Death Camp Trostenets", which was exhibited in the exhibition hall of the Gomel University. F.Skorina during the training seminar.
Dr. Janeke led a curatorial tour of the exhibition, where she spoke about the background of the project, about the concept of “memorial landscape”, as well as about the challenges that emerged in the process of working on the exhibition.
